Course Topics

The Diploma has six core units and 14 elective units.

Module 1

Foundation Skills

In this first module, you will learn some essential cyber security basics and best practices. You’ll then learn how to utilise networking fundamentals, including wide area network (WAN) technologies, basic security, and route and switch operations. This module also covers developing and originating concepts, and undertaking introductory programming tasks using an object-oriented programming language (Java).

Module 2

Cyber Security

Next you will dive deeper into your cyber security specialisation. This will include learning how to gather, analyse, and interpret threat data. You will also find out about the tools and knowledge you need to protect critical infrastructure, and design security architecture using specific design methodologies. Additionally, you’ll learn how to apply ethics and privacy policies in ICT environments.

Module 3

Networking

For the third module in this course, you’ll expand your knowledge in the world of advanced networking. This will include learning how to install, configure, and manage virtual computing environments. Further topics include installing and upgrading operating systems and matching ICT needs with the strategic direction of an organisation.

Module 4

Incidents and Testing

A big part of networking and cyber security is knowing how to be prepared for potential threats. In this fourth module, you’ll gain skills for developing incident response plans, and reviewing and updating both disaster recovery and contingency plans. You will then learn how to manage the deployment and administration of enterprise communication solutions – such as email, web portals, or collaboration tools – and how to design, build, and test network servers so that they meet requirements and are secure.

Module 5

Leadership Skills

To succeed in a variety of IT roles, you will need strong leadership skills. For the final module, you will gain the knowledge required for managing network security, as well as client problems. You will further hone your skillset by learning how to install and manage complex ICT networks and be an effective leader in a team environment.
